One of the biggest Influences for this project was the book My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me, edited by Kate Bernheimer. It is a collection of traditional Fairy Tale stories that are rewritten by various authors to appeal to a contemporary and mature audience. Seeing this book inspired me to look into the real-life negative effects that fairy tales might have on young children, and made me consider how I could mix these two key elements into one project. My illustrations for this project were heavily influenced and inspired by traditional fairy tale artists such as Arthur Rackham and Ivan Bilibin, and this influenced my overall style for the work.
As for the textile aspect of the project, I had been inspired the methods applied to these pieces. They have a dark, and sinister character and I felt that this worked well with the drawing.
