Sophie Amelia Harding is a visual artist from Newport, South Wales, currently studying in Swansea. Harding challenges conventional notions of portraiture by obscuring the identity of the subject rather than depicting it. Describing her process as a transposition of energy, she plays with the balance between abstraction and form. Her expressive paintings explore the dualism of human nature, contrasting outbursts of fluidity and chaos with a poignant vulnerability and calm. Through colour, mark, and gesture she seeks to capture an evocative yet familiar energy she refers to as “Human Essence”.
