Viv Collis is a research-based documentary photography who lives and works in South Wales. Collis’s projects cover social documentary and portraiture, exploring the representation of people on the margins of society, those under or mis-represented and diverse community groups.
Collis’s projects explore community, representation and narrative: emersing herself with the communities; listening to their stories and situations; including their own words in her work; creating multi-platform narratives using archive, found and original images, and video.

Swansea has offered sanctuary to people fleeing wars and natural disasters for many years. By using found and contemporary images and video, this body of work seeks to explore historical aspects and the meaning and manifestation of sanctuary for refugees then and now.
Swansea continues to offer sanctuary and welcome those in need. It celebrates 10 years as a City of Sanctuary in 2020.
